Description
The pickle ornament was considered a special tree decoration by many families in Germany. There, the fir tree was decorated on Christmas Eve. It was always the last ornament to be hung on the Christmas tree, with the parents hiding it in the green boughs among the other ornaments.
When the children were allowed to view the tree on Christmas morning, they would begin gleefully searching for the pickle ornament. For they knew whoever first found that special ornament would receive an extra little gift left by St. Nicholas for the most observant child.

Making New Traditions with Classic Old Ones
I was out with a friend at a Vintage Market and the entire time she was looking for a Christmas Pickle Ornament. At first I thought it seemed ridiculous - but then she told me the Traditional Story of the ornament and how her family adapted it for themselves.When we couldn't find her a vintage pickle, I looked here at Victorian Trading Co. Interesting historical item
This was a gift for my brother, we are part German and he spent time there during his service years. I thought it would be a nice 'tradition' for him to start with his kids and grandchildren.

Love the Dill and the Story
I ordered 3 of these ornaments one for my husband and the other two for my adult sons. Traditionally I give each family member an ornament every year. I thought these were great!
