Oh holy night...the glorious scene of that First Noel is presented in an exquisite set of ceramic figurines, hand painted in muted pastel hues and enhanced with a crackled finish that gives them the appearance of having weathered a century of Christmases. The origin of the nativity scene, or "creche," is attributed to St. Francis of Assisi, who - according to the biography of St. Bonaventure - staged a living nativity scene composed of a hay-filled manger and livestock to enhance the celebration of midnight mass one Christmas. The tradition of the nativity scene reached peak popularity in America during the Victorian Era and became a seasonal staple in most homes. We are happy to carry on this time-honoured tradition with our classical crèche of heirloom calibur, destined to bless the family hearth for generations to come.
