Having seemingly slipped from the colourful pages of a Brothers Grimm fairy tale, this churlish fellow keeps vigil over your bowers and blooms, warding off hungry rabbits and imbuing your garden beds with storybook charm.

The garden gnome tradition is said to have originated in Germany in the early 1800s, but the folklore surrounding these creatures dates back to Greek and Roman mythology. The word gnome translates from Latin to "earth dwellers," and according to ancient alchemy, they were the representatives of the "earth" element. As such, they were believed to protect the territory entrusted to their care from all manner of trespassers and misfortunes. It's no wonder that superstitious Victorian farmers are said to have tucked them away amidst garden rows and high up in the rafters of the barn, in hopes of a good harvest. Our colourful cast-iron rendition of this iconic garden dweller comes from a long lineage of antique predecessors and carries on the family tradition of bringing good fortune to bear upon your prized little piece of earth.
