Circa 1855 France, the clever crystal disc was placed around a drippy taper to catch candle drippings thereby protecting lace cloths and furnishings from damage. The glass collar offers a central opening through which a candle is inserted into a candleholder.
The concept was further embellished with dangling prisms, and fanciful etched motifs popularized in Europe. Electrified chandeliers continue to mimic the candlelit candelabras with decorative bobeches on every arm.

I love them so much
One dangle was short a crystal and jump ring. I just happened to have an extra crystal the same size and found a jump ring close enough. otherwise I would have been totally disappointed. Stevie

Sturdy and pretty
These are pretty. The glass drip catcher is thicker and coarser than I'd pictured. Sort of heavy-duty - not as delicate as I thought. However, the overall effect is still lovely and you don't have to worry much about breakage when you're popping wax off later.

Tea Parties
There are several of us who get together for lunches. We graduated from High School way back when, and still enjoy our friendships. I found the Victorian Tea Party cookbook in your magazine, and with the bobeches to put on the candlesticks, we will really be feeling the mood. Looking forward to more teas this way.
