Antebellum Crazy Quilt

All that I was anticipating. Velvets and satin with lots of accent stitching. Border is very dark navy, almost black.Heavy and warm for a cold winters night. The back side is nicely lined in a deep rust. I would order this quilt again, worth the price.

I took a chance on this Crazy Quilt, because I had priced the antique originals and they were too expensive. They were also so old they were not machine washable. What the company did not reveal in their ad about this quilt was that the backing is a thick cotton fabric in a maroon/brown color. The backing fabric is a tight weave that does not attract pet hair! They also do not tell you to disregard the smell when you open the packing, and immediately wash it on a medium setting, and dry it on medium also, with a fabric softener. They also do not tell you that some of the patches are satin brocade, and not just velveteen alone. I like that. It makes the quilt look more like the real thing. One of the reviews complained that the embroidery was very sparse. Not so with the one I ordered. I was resigned to do some additional embroidery of my own when it arrived, but that was completely unnecessary. The embroidery was excellent and generously distributed all over the quilt. I put

I love my Antebellum Crazy Quilt- I keep it on my easy chair in front of the TV and often snuggle under it and fall asleep. It is velvety soft and snuggly and nice and warm in the winter, but I also snuggle under it in the Summer as well when there is air conditioning.I have always been a fan of the classical Civil War era crazy quilt made from scraps of fine fabric with embroidery, but they are hard to make and difficult to find already made. People who have one don't let them go. It is a beautiful replica that has an authentic look. It feels elegant to snuggle under it.

Although the velvet is quite nice the picture shows some embroidery that just isn't there on the actual product. There was a small amount of embroidery thread drawn roughly across the border between some squares but no nice design or anything resembling it. So if you love the look due to the velvet patches go for it, but don't expect any type of fine needlework. I have returned the quilt.

My, my I purchased this identical item a couple of years ago from victorian trading company and wanted another, my how things have changed. The older quilt had larger, different colored embroidered patches- different thread colors and shapes- and the velvet border was much smaller. The new quilt has a much larger border not much embroidery, it's no way as nice as the one I purchased years ago. I am glad I have the older one as the new one available is no way as nice. It's sad. I guess the production costs were too high and they scaled back? I don't know, but I was certainly disappointed when it arrived. It is to be folded at the foot of a bed so I will keep it, but it makes me a little sad.
