Utterly taken by the garden at Hammerfield Penshurst, hymn writer Dorothy Frances Gurney could not keep herself from committing her thoughts in Lord Gower's visitors log. Titled "God's Garden", the second to last verse has come into popularity -- though few are familiar with its origins.

The kiss of the sun for pardon,
the song of the birds for mirth,
one is nearer God's heart in a garden
than anywhere else on earth.

"God's Garden" lines 13 - 16, Poems by Dorothy Frances Gurney (1913).

Our poetic sign will create a welcoming atmosphere. Station it at the entrance or tuck the plaque near your hydrangea bush.
